Reflexology is the definitive study of foot massage. This therapeutic treatment has been traced to practices in ancient Egypt (approx. 2030 BC) as well as early China, Japan and throughout the world. Historic documentation reflects the belief that feet are sensors for the body and that certain reflex points or zones on the feet correspond to the rest of the body and its organs. The application of pressure, using hand, thumb and finger techniques to specific designated points will stimulate and relieve the congestion of the body’s energy. Some reflexologists have also expanded the therapy principles to include massage of the hands and ears as well.

Utilizing reflexology, a practitioner applies purposeful massage to stimulate the body’s own energy flow to create balance and encourage healing.
